Diversity in Clinical Trials librarian meeting form |
Thank you for scheduling a meeting with a librarian about identifying priority populations for your clinical trial.
Here is the workflow:
The first librarian meeting is to locate literature that helps you identify what population(s) have been overlooked in trials around the intervention type of interest.
Prior to the meeting a librarian will draft a PubMed search string for clinical trials based on the information you provide in this form.
During the meeting, you will work with the librarian to make any refinements to the search so that it is a good match for your project. If there is a large volume of relevant results, the librarian will limit the search to systematic reviews. The librarian will provide you with the search string and/or a file for your citation manager, depending on your preference.
After the meeting you/your team will skim the titles/abstracts to identify articles the articles that best match your question, then check the full text to review the demographic information in any appropriate trials to determine which groups are under-represented.
If you are working with systematic reviews, the data in the reviews may be adequate to identify under-represented groups; otherwise, you can check the demographics of the clinical trial articles in the systematic reviews' evidence tables.
Full text of all relevant articles can be obtained by searching the UW Libraries catalog; either downloaded directly or, for articles where we do not have a subscription, requested from the catalog page through Article Galaxy Scholar or our free article scan service.
