Series learning objectives:
- Describe the identification and diagnosis of common mental health and substance use disorders in the perinatal period .
- Formulate treatment plans for mental health and substance use disorders during pregnancy and postpartum.
- Compare the risks of untreated disorders with the risks of psychotropic medication use during pregnancy and lactation .
- Appreciate the role of stigma, racism and social determinants of health in perinatal mental health and substance use treatment engagement .
